Choosing what to wear for your New Orleans engagement session doesn’t have to be a headache! I’ve been shooting couple’s sessions for years, and I’ve collected some tips and tricks to dress your best and make the most of your shoot. No need to stress! If you follow my advice, you’ll look and feel your best the day of your session.
Comfort is key.
Try on your look before the day of the shoot and make sure it’s something you can move in comfortably and freely. Check if bra straps are showing, or if any wardrobe malfunctions are bound to happen. If you can walk, sit, and move comfortable in your outfit, it’s probably a great option!
Less is more.
No need to overdo it with outfit changes. Pick something you love, and I’ll capture you looking your best. Multiple outfits are usually more hassle than they’re worth – they ruin the flow of the day, and you’ll have to carry an extra bag around. No fun!
Mind your colors and patterns.
Go bold, bring on the colors or keep it neutral. My only advice here is to try to coordinate and choose colors and patterns that work with your partner’s look. Be mindful of how patterns and colors will work together. Too many clashing prints and colors won’t have that timeless feel.
Dress the part.
Consider your engagement session location when choosing your look. A cocktail dress might look out of place in the middle of a field, but would kill at a moody lounge. It’s also important that you and your boo are similarly dressed up or down.
Check the weather.
When shooting in New Orleans, it’s important to consider the time of year you’ll be having your engagement shoot. Weather can also change by the minute, so check the hourly forecast as well! We are always battling humidity and heat, so plan your hair and makeup looks accordingly. No matter what though, we make the most out of it, even if it’s pouring down raining!
