Choosing a Meaningful Location for Portraits | Katelyn + Darius

March 15, 2021

Choosing a meaningful location for portraits is a great way to add a layer of familiarity to your session. Katelyn and Darius spends the last few weeks as a family of two in their Thibodaux home. They invited me over to their home, which I absolutely loved. When couples incorporate locations that resonate with them, whether that be their home or a coffee shop, it tends to make people feel more at ease for their portraits. This was Katelyn and Darius’s first home, and they had just move in when they scheduled their session, so we were able to get cozy on their kitchen floor where their dining table will go and get to know each other in their living room where they will soon raise their daughter.

After we took some photos at their house, Katelyn and Darius got all dressed up and brought me to where they got married the year before. The Dansereau House was so kind to allow us to use their grounds for a part of their session. We ended their portraits with some sparkling grape juice since Katelyn was pregnant.

Before you just choose your nearby park for your maternity session, consider a place that is special to you and your partner. It really elevates the session and makes those images grow fonder as your family expands.
